Two years ago Nick Ross was enjoying the surf breaks of Santa Cruz, California, marvelling at the opportunity that the Massey Study Abroad programme had offered to him. Having completed his degree in Industrial Design in 2008 Nick is now preparing for other foreign shores – this time to face the 23 hour nights of a sub-arctic winter, while he works on his Masters in Design at the prestigious Umea Institute of Design in Sweden.
Massey University School of Design taught Nick to pursue every opportunity, and that through sheer determination and persistence any graduate can build the foundation for their dreams. Close involvement with the design industry during his time studying also enabled a smooth transition from a study environment to a professional work environment.
Nick can picture his future design career surrounded by colleagues who he met as classmates, where healthy debate, rigorous research and personal experience informs their work on a sustainable and desirable future. Nick credits Massey University for these insights and abilities, now fundamental to his approach to design.
