Wellington College is one of New Zealand’s most prestigious Government High Schools for boys. The College was established in 1867 providing a complete education from Year 9 to 13 with an emphasis on preparation for a tertiary education. Recognition of student effort and celebration of achievement in all spheres of College life are features. School uniform is compulsory and an emphasis is placed on pride in personal presentation. The present roll of 1500 students is a multi-ethnic, though predominantly European community. There are about 90 international students.

Location and Facilities
Set in well landscaped grounds, Wellington College projects an image of history, impressive facilities and an environment of orderliness. The School is sited on 12 hectares between Wellington's green belt and the City and is close to the Airport, Government, Business, Sports, Tourist and Cultural facilities.

In addition to 70 classrooms, laboratories and technology facilities, extensive fundraising has provided the building of state of the art Science, Sports, Art and Computer Centres, International Student Centre and new Library.

Academic Programmes/Subjects Offered
Effective teaching and learning are emphasised. In Years 9 to 11 compulsory subjects are English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Physical Education, Technology, Music and Health. Year 12 and 13 programmes offer a wide range of academic subjects preparing students for University studies.

Extracurricular Programme
A feature of the College is its strong extra-curricular programme that encourages a large number of students to take part in a wide range of team and individual sports. These include, athletics, basketball, cricket, rugby, swimming, soccer and tennis. Students also take part in a wide range of cultural activities including, drama and music.

Student Welfare
The College is a signatory to the Government’s Code of Practice and a network of staff and facilities including an International Office, Homestay Manager, Dean and Guidance staff provide extensive support for student welfare.

Accommodation
Homestays are arranged with New Zealand families.

English Language Support
English language and Orientation programmes are provided when students arrive. Specialist ESOL and support programmes are provided throughout the year for students on full academic courses.

Fees
Annual tuition fees in 2011 are NZ$14,000. Homestay $230 per week. Welfare management fee $600 (per year). Uniform approx. $550. Travel and Medical Insurance for one year $490.
