Onslow College is a coeducational state secondary school with a strong tradition of academic education within a student centred philosophy. We teach our students to be independent learners. Students do not wear a uniform.

Founded in 1956, Onslow has always welcomed students from different cultural backgrounds. Current Onslow College has a roll of approximately 1150 students. These include exchange students, students from diplomatic families and international students.

Location
Onslow College is situated in the suburb of Johnsonville which is 10 minutes by car north of central Wellington. Johnsonville has a shopping centre, a public swimming pool as well as a variety of eating establishments and is surrounded by hills and bushes.

Facilities and Services
Onslow has excellent cultural and sports facilities. Our new science block, gymnasium, music suite, technology block, library, arts centre and computer facilities are features of the school.
The Director of International Students assists students with administration issues and choice of subjects. We also have
a Homestay Manager to support the student accommodation and a Guidance Counsellor to assist with any problems. If required, we also use bilingual counsellors.

Academic Programme
Onslow College offers high quality teaching with academic success. A wide range of subjects are available which include information technology, accounting, economics, photography, media studies and art design.
Most of our internationals students go one to attend universities of their choice or other tertiary institutions. The school has good results in public examinations as well as other cultural and sports activities
Language Courses Available
Japanese, German, French, Maori, Spanish and Chinese at year 13.

Extracurricular Programme
Onslow College offers a choice of over 30 sports and numerous cultural activities for the students to participate in. These include badminton, basketball, soccer, tennis, dragon boat, rowing, tramping, school choir and school production. Individual tuition is available in music instruments.

Special Relations with Overseas Schools and Students
Onslow has always welcomed international students and we currently have students from about 20 countries. Every year there is a cultural exchange programme with a girls high school in Tokyo, Japan. Approximately 10% of our students come from non English speaking backgrounds. Some are international students and others live permanently in New Zealand. Twice a year a summary of each international student's progress is translated and sent to their families.

Accommodation
Accommodation with New Zealand families is arranged by the school We work hard at arranging for students to live with host families that meet their needs and ensure that their experience in New Zealand is positive.

English Language Entry Requirement
We require general information about a student before we can accept them This includes their academic progress, character and English ability.

English Language Support
The ESOL Department provides high quality English language courses at all levels including IELTS. We have qualified ESOL staff who work with students or individually. We also support students in classrooms with their other subjects. Orientation programmes are held during the year. We also have staff who can speak European and Asian languages including Japanese, Chinese and Korean.

Fees
The annual tuition fee is NZS12,000 This will remain the same for the duration of the student's time at Onslow. The homestay charge is NZS220 a week and there is a homestay support fee of NZS750 each year. International students must have appropriate and current medical and travel insurance while studying in New Zealand. Onslow College will arrange medical insurance on your arrival if you have not done so.
