Wellington Girls' College is one of the leading Government High Schools for girls in New Zealand. The College offers an excellent academic education along with numerous opportunities to participate in sport, music, cultural groups and drama. International Students live in a friendly, supportive community, experiencing New Zealand life and culture in a supervised homestay programme with high standards of care at home and school.
Location and Facilities
Founded in 1883, this highly respected girls' secondary school is close to the centre of the capital city. It is just a few minutes walk to the main shopping area, to the local transport centre, to cultural and sporting facilities, to business and Government.
Modern facilities include science and multi-media computer laboratories, an International Student Centre, two gyms and a sports field. Students wear school uniform in Year 9 – 12, there is no uniform for students in Year 13.
Academic Programmes / Subjects Offered
Wellington Girls’ College consistently achieves some of the highest pass rates amongst government schools for NCEA exams and university entrance qualifications. Students choose subjects from a first class academic programme that includes Mathematics, Science, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Art, Photography, Economics, Accounting, Mandarin Chinese, German, Latin, French, Maori, Information Technology, Performing Arts, Media Studies, Psychology and Music. Excellent ESOL (English language) and academic English programmes are offered at all levels at no extra cost and in small ESOL classes.
Co-curricular Programme
With over a hundred sports teams and numerous clubs, music, drama and cultural groups, there are many opportunities for International students to join a school activity. Students participate at all levels of ability, from beginner to national ranking.
Student Welfare
An experienced team of staff provides extensive support for international students. The international student Language Centre is a special base in the school and the International Director, Homestay Manager, International Dean, level Deans and ESOL teachers are always on hand to help students settle and progress through school.
Accommodation
Students live either with an approved family member or they take part in the College's Homestay Programme. Wellington Girls’ College is served by a very good public transport system and host families are situated all around the city. The Homestay Manager will organise and supervise all aspects of the student's accommodation. There is no school hostel.

Annual tuition fees for 2010 are NZ$14,000;
