Wellington East Girls’ College, established in 1925, is a traditional school for girls. Cultural differences are celebrated, and we aim to meet the individual learning and pastoral care needs of each student.

Location and Facilities
Overlooking the city, the college is near Victoria and Massey Universities, and close to Wellington International Airport. It has a wide range of modern facilities and well-equipped classrooms. These include suites for music, drama, computers and technology, science laboratories, art and photography rooms, a superb library and a large assembly hall. Sports facilities include a large sports field, netball, basketball and tennis courts, swimming pool and two gymnasia.

Academic Programme
Students are encouraged to value learning, bringing commendable results in external examinations and later at university. A wide range of subjects is offered: English, Media Studies, ESOL, Science, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Maths with Statistics, Maths with Calculus, History, Geography, Art History, Music, Vocal Studies, Maori, French, Latin, Chinese, Classical Studies, Information Technology, Economics, Accounting, Tourism and Hospitality, Photography, Painting, Design, Physical Education, and Life Skills.

Extra Curricular Programme
Most sports can be played. Business clubs operate for girls to gain practical experience. Drama and musical productions, computer clubs, debating and social services are catered for. There are excellent choirs, orchestra and bands as well as cultural groups.

Special Relations with International Schools & Students
Wellington East Girls’ College is a multi-cultural school. Students come from many countries including Hong Kong, Japan, Thailand, Korea, Cambodia, Vietnam, China, Indonesia, India, and parts of Europe either as international students or via an exchange organisation. We have a sister school in Japan.

Student Welfare
The Director of International Students provides guidance with both school-related and personal aspects of the student’s stay , including subject choice , orientation, providing ‘buddies’ and arranging social evenings for International Students and host families.


Accommodation
Our Homestay Administrator meets new students at the airport, arranges accommodation with a New Zealand family and assists with any accommodation matters. Homestays are carefully checked and supervised.

Homestay will cost NZ$220.00 per week, all food and laundry included. Homestay families are expected to treat the student as a member of the family, and to involve themselves in all aspects of her welfare.
The college charges $400.00 per year for administration of accommodation.

English Language Requirements
Copies of the most recent school reports must be sent to us. Students should have at least a beginner’s knowledge of English. All students are tested on entry and are placed at a level at which they can best achieve success.

English Language Support
Intensive English tuition by experienced qualified staff is offered at all levels and in-class support is provided in subjects with specialist vocabularies.

Fees 2010
Tuition fees: $13,000 per year.( These will rise to $13,500 for new students in 2011)

Application/ Administration fee: NZ$200.
